New!......Model P3 Strain Indicator / Recorder
Vishay Measurements Group is proud to
announce the new Model P3. This class-leading product has superlative
performance and extensive features making it an essential tool for all
users of strain gauges and strain gauge based transducers (including
loadcells, pressure transducers, displacement sensors etc).
This rugged, 4-channel battery powered instrument is menu driven
allowing for fast and comprehensive setup. Direct dialling of gauge
factor, built-in shunt calibration and software corrections for
non-linearity ensure the most accurate data possible in strain
measurement. For other inputs the unit can be directly calibrated in
engineering units by entering the full scale and sensitivity values.
This fully-corrected data can be recorded to the supplied solid state
memory card (MMC) either manually or at a minimum 1 second interval for
later downloading to a PC via USB or by removing the card for use with a
card reader. |

Additionally a USB interface
and free software enable fast setup from the PC. This includes the
ability to save and load existing set-ups and to record data directly to
the PC. Using simple tools (ActiveX controls) data can even be streamed
directly into another application for further processing in real time –
for example, Excel can plot real-time load-vs-strain graphs.

New Product!...... MicroPos Rider Roll Control System.
The RRS MicroPOS rider roll control system is a digital closed loop force control system used on paper machine two-drum winders. The system uses load cells either side to support the rider roll and to measure the rider roll weight. Closed loop servo hydraulics then provide the right Rider Roll relief to give the ideal Nip Pressure that is required for the existing diameter of the paper reel being wound.

- Uniform hardness across and through the paper roll
- Consistent quality in each roll.

Configuration is carried out on a standard PC and all settings can be saved to disc.

Vishay Nobel Load Cell Equipment on World's Largest Offshore Pipe Laying Vessel
Caley Ocean Systems of Scotland, chosen to design and manufacture a 700 tonne capacity hang off module, approached Vishay Nobel Ltd. for assistance with the monitoring of the pipe laying hold-back forces -critical in marine pipe laying for optimum speed and operational safety.
The module was for the recently commissioned CSO "Deep Blue" ultra deep water pipelay and subsea construction vessel; 206 metres long with a depth range of 2500 metres and a pipe handling capacity of 28 inches.
The module is mounted on four four-wheeled bogies, enabling it to move laterally and fore and aft over a moonpool area. Each bogie axle is fitted with two KOSD type 2MN double shear beam load cells, which have been used in thousands of towing and mooring winch installations throughout the offshore oil and marine industries.
Vishay Nobel also supplied AST 3P Digital Weight Transmitters to power and signal condition each load cell.
Replacing Old Technology at Muller Dairy Minimises Product Loss
Muller Dairy in Shropshire recently chose the Klay 2000SAN Pressure Transmitters from Vishay Nobel to replace their old transmitters. The 2000SAN "smart" microprocessor based all stainless steel pressure transmitter is designed for use in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. It has an IP66 rating, is fully temperature compensated and has a very strong flush mounted hygienic diaphragm. Output is 4-20mA or digital with HART® protocol. EMI/RFI CE certification is standard with CENELEC optional.
These Pressure Transmitters are used to calculate levels and pressures within yoghurt vessels by means of two transmitters, one top and one bottom, the outputs of which are fed into a PLC system. The vessels have to maintain a precise pressure with correct levels reported at all times.
Additionally, during sterilisation, the 2000SAN Pressure Transmitters have to monitor levels of the Clean In Place (C.I.P.) medium, when temperatures exceed 100°C.
Commenting on the results of this engineering work, Mr Steve Ruscoe, Process and Services Engineering Manager, said
"To date, after the short period of installation, product loss to effluent has been reduced. Also no transmitters have failed so far, unlike previous other units."
