Vishay Nobel - A Company Profile

We have been providing specialist industrial process weighing and force measurement solutions for over 30 years under the banners of Bofors and Nobel. We were established as the U.K. operation of Bofors Electronics, in Croydon, in 1973.
Bofors started developing load cells and force measuring equipment in the 1940's for use in gun control systems. In the late 1960's they developed and patented the KIS load cell, a major breakthrough in the accurate weighing of heated and agitated vessels.

Bofors Electronics division developed the world's first microprocessor controlled weight indicator and terminal in 1973 and in 1976 joined forces with BLH, who produced the world's first commercial strain gauges in the early 1940's and have remained at the forefront of strain gauge development ever since. During 2002, we became part of the Vishay group of companies.

Vishay was founded in 1962 and, by commitment to innovation and growth through acquisition, is now one of the worlds largest manufacturers of electronic components. Vishay's products include passive components, discrete semiconductors and sensing and measuring equipment, which form the building blocks for technology products ranging from household consumer goods and medical equipment to aerospace and military systems. Vishay is a Fortune 1000 company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, with manufacturing plants in 14 countries and employing in excess of 20,000 people worldwide.
Vishay Nobel still has its headquarters in Karlskoga, Sweden with subsidiaries in France, Germany, Finland and Norway as well as the U.K.
