Strain Gauges are simple but highly effective devices for converting material surface strain into a measurable electrical output. The gauges themselves are metal foil resistors fitted to an insulation backing, which is bonded to the surface of the material under test. When strain is applied to the material under test, there is a proportional change in resistance of the strain gauge, this change can be measured and if necessary amplified for data logging or interpretation by the end user.
There are many uses for foil strain gauges, some typical applications would be stress analysis of aircraft components, to determine possible failure points, manufacture of a wide variety of transducers, such as loadcells and torque transducers and also for vibration measurement on aircraft engines.

This catalogue contains the most up to date selection of Vishay BLH strain gauges and is aimed primarily at the transducer and OEM manufacturer. The miniature range of cables from Industrifil is exclusive to Vishay Nobel UK and compliments the strain gauge products perfectly. A highly varied selection of cables and wires is available and can be used from -200 to +255°C. They are also highly flexible and available in Robotics format.
In cable form, diameters of as little as 1.2mm (4 core screened) can be accommodated and the PFA range of cables are also able to handle the majority of aggressive media.
